Il soprano Channa Malkin è nota per la sua personalità musicale coinvolgente e per una creatività senza freni. Dal suo debutto operistico all’età di 16 anni nel ruolo di Barbarina (Le nozze di Figaro) presso la Dutch National Opera, ha costruito una carriera internazionale tra opera, concerto e recital, distinguendosi per scelte narrative forti e un’autenticità emotiva profonda.

Nell’ottobre 2025 ha pubblicato il suo terzo album solistico, acclamato dalla critica, FURY/MERCY (Challenge Classics), con arie di Antonio Vivaldi insieme all’orchestra barocca La Sfera Armoniosa diretta da Mike Fentross. L’album ha ricevuto recensioni entusiaste sulla stampa olandese e internazionale. NRC ha scritto che «l’attenzione è costantemente rivolta all’autenticità dell’emozione piuttosto che alla rifinitura del suono — un approccio che rende l’album profondamente avvincente, poiché in questa interpretazione è chiaramente in gioco qualcosa di veramente essenziale». È in fase di sviluppo una tournée del programma FURY / MERCY per la stagione 2026/2027.

Tra i momenti salienti recenti figurano il ruolo del titolo in Acis and Galatea di Händel a Málaga e numerose apparizioni al Royal Concertgebouw di Amsterdam, tra cui un gala d’opera, la Messa in do minore di Mozart, il Requiem di Fauré e il suo debutto in recital. Opera Today ha elogiato la sua «voce pura e morbida, ma ricca di sentimento».

Come solista, Channa si è esibita con orchestre di primo piano, tra cui la Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, la Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, la Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, Holland Baroque, la Jerusalem Baroque Orchestra e la Brooklyn Philharmonic, collaborando con direttori quali Mariss Jansons, Ingo Metzmacher, Jukka-Pekka Saraste e specialisti della musica antica come Joshua Rifkin, Andrew Parrott e Andrea Marcon. Le sue esibizioni l’hanno portata in tutta Europa, in Israele e negli Stati Uniti, e ha partecipato a festival come il Festival Händel di Göttingen e il Festival di Musica Antica di Utrecht.

Il suo repertorio operistico comprende Poppea, Despina, Zerlina, Pamina, Papagena, Charite (Cadmus et Hermione), Eva (In the Beginning, prima mondiale), Seconda Nipote (Peter Grimes) e tutti i ruoli femminili nel Peer Gynt di Grieg. In ambito concertistico è una interprete abituale degli oratori di Bach, Händel e Mozart ed è fortemente impegnata nella musica contemporanea, inclusa la prima europea e statunitense della cantata Yizkor di Josef Malkin.

Artista appassionata di recital, Channa crea programmi a tema che collegano la musica a storie personali e sociali. Il suo album di debutto Songs of Love and Exile (2019), realizzato con il chitarrista Izhar Elias, ha segnato l’inizio di una collaborazione in duo di oltre dieci anni ed è stato accolto con ampio consenso dalla critica. Il suo secondo album, This Is Not a Lullaby, con il pianista Artem Belogurov e la violoncellista Maya Fridman, ha esplorato la realtà non idealizzata della nuova maternità ed è stato lodato da Opernglas e De Volkskrant per la sua profondità emotiva.

Impegnata ad ampliare il pubblico della musica classica, ha co-creato l’opera multimediale Händel goes Tinder, che ha toccato i principali festival ed è stata rappresentata in oltre 40 spettacoli sold out. Dal 2026 Channa Malkin è Direttrice Artistica di Musica Antica Den Haag, una delle principali rassegne concertistiche di musica antica nei Paesi Bassi. Accanto al suo lavoro artistico sul palcoscenico e in studio di registrazione, lavora come Professional Integration Coach per gli studenti di Master del Conservatorio Reale dell’Aia. Recent highlights include the title role in Händel’s Acis and Galatea in Málaga and numerous appearances at theRoyal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, including an opera gala, Mozart’s Mass in C minor, Fauré’s Requiem, and her recital debut. Opera Today praised her “pure and smooth voice, but full of feeling.”

As a soloist, Channa has appeared with leading orchestras including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, Holland Baroque, Jerusalem Baroque Orchestra, and the Brooklyn Philharmonic, among others, working with conductors such as Mariss Jansons, Ingo Metzmacher, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, and early music specialists Joshua Rifkin, Andrew Parrott, and Andrea Marcon. Her performances have taken her throughout Europe, Israel, and the United States, and she has appeared at festivals such as the Göttingen Händel Festival and the Utrecht Early Music Festival.

Her operatic repertoire includes Poppea, Despina, Zerlina, Pamina, Papagena, Charite (Cadmus et Hermione), Eve (In the Beginning, world premiere), Second Niece (Peter Grimes), and all female roles in Grieg’s Peer Gynt. In concert, she is a regular interpreter of Bach, Händel, and Mozart oratorios and is strongly committed to contemporary music, including the premiere of Josef Malkin’s cantata Yizkor in Europe and the United States.

A passionate recital artist, Channa creates thematically driven programmes that connect music to personal and societal stories. Her debut album Songs of Love and Exile (2019), created with guitarist Izhar Elias, marked the beginning of a long-standing duo collaboration of over ten years and received wide critical acclaim. Her second album, This Is Not a Lullaby, with pianist Artem Belogurov and cellist Maya Fridman, explored the unromanticized reality of new motherhood and was praised by Opernglas and De Volkskrant for its emotional depth.

Committed to expanding the reach of classical music, she co-created the multimedia opera Händel goes Tinder, which has toured major festivals and played over 40 sold-out performances. From 2026, Channa Malkin has been the Artistic Director of Musica Antica Den Haag, one of the Netherlands’ leading early music concert series. Alongside her artistic work on stage and in the recording studio, she works as a Professional Integration Coach for Master’s students at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. She lives in Amsterdam with her husband and two children.
